The first thing to say is that Business Support Hull is not replacing The Business Culture Hull. It’s not trying to approach a different audience, sell a different concept or do anything The Business Culture Hull isn’t already doing.
What it is, however, is an ever-so-slightly re-focussed spotlight on what The Business Culture Hull has become and what it does best, and that’s to support businesses in Hull and the East Riding.
When The Business Culture Hull started back in 2016, it was all about meeting up, introducing people and the one-to-one support I was able to give them. It focussed on putting people together who were mutually useful to each other. I’ve never used the word ‘networking group’, but I can forgive anyone who regarded us as one during the first year or so.
But I don’t let that go anymore (because it’s simply not true)!
That’s the whole point of Business Support Hull and why we’ve launched the new website to make a statement about how far The Business Culture Hull has developed and how, in real and practical terms, our members have benefitted.
With the support tools we offer, the experience and expertise we have within our expansive membership, and the drive we collectively have to make this about improving the business of Hull, we are Business Support Hull.
Building a strong business isn’t about having a great idea, having lots of money behind you and having ambition. All of those things help, but they’re not what makes it work in the long run, that comes down to (generally) one person who takes all the decisions, has responsibility for the consequences, works punishingly hard and regularly feels out of their depth.
The ethos behind Business Support Hull is nothing new; it merely acknowledges that businesses aren’t ‘entities’; they’re people. When any person starts something new, takes a risk or does something few other people do, it’s potent if other people who have travelled similar journeys offer them support and guidance.
The three main pillars of support we highlight on the website sum up what it’s all about:
A Problem Shared: Phone-a-friend, one-to-one mentoring support and private members’ groups; three different approaches to help create the environment where you feel comfortable airing your problems, talking to people who ‘get it’ and connecting with the right people.
Follow A Leader: Ask the expert, member insights and motivational speakers. Every person has something to offer others.
Never Stop Learning: member-driven workshops, mastermind classes and Trans2 Performance.Whatever it is that you do, running a business about it is different. This is the ‘many heads’ theory at work. If we each share a bit of knowledge that’s useful to others, we all learn, always.
Business Culture Hull, Business Support Hull, however you say it, it’s about continuing to grow and support the business community in Hull.
